When was the last time you had the oil in your Toyota changed? It may be time for another oil change if it has been several months or several thousand miles. If you have never changed the oil in your vehicle before but don’t want to go to your local Toyota dealer, keep reading to discover the steps you need to take and some reasons you should consider having your local dealership change your oil for you. Let Toyota Vallejo help with our Toyota Service Center. One of our skilled technicians can help answer your questions.

To change your Toyota’s oil, park it somewhere flat, activate the parking brake, and turn the motor off. If your Toyota is low to the ground, you should use jack stands to hold it in place after jacking it up, or you should elevate your front end by driving the vehicle onto a ramp. Then, you should open your hood and remove the dipstick from your engine oil reservoir.

After that, you need to put on eye protection, crawl under your Toyota, and remove the oil drain plug from the motor’s oil pan. Then, you must wait for your motor oil to drain into a large catch pan placed beneath the plug hole. Then, you should remove the oil filter after allowing any oil it was holding drain. After that, you must lubricate the new oil filter’s gasket with clean motor oil and:

  • Install the clean filter
  • Remove the cap from the oil reservoir
  • Add the right amount of oil with a funnel
  • Put the oil fill cap back on
  • Idle the engine for 30 seconds or more
  • Make sure you don’t have an oil leak
  • Turn off the engine
  • Check for oil leaks again
  • Return your vehicle to the ground if applicable
  • Ensure there is an adequate amount of fuel in your vehicle
